Poker Face

Tonight my husband hosted the weekly poker party with his buddies.

I've been waiting forever for a reason to pull out my perfect vintage hostess apron. With such good poker faces, I couldn't quite get a read on how the guys liked the apron...but I think it's a winner!

At Joyworks we use cute vintage playing cards for our business cards...too bad my husband wasn't dealt this hand tonight...

Eat Something Cute!

Lisa Waxman Johnson came in today and brought us the most delicious cupcakes from her store called New York Cupcakes in Bellevue, Washington.
Customers often ask her about the name, “New York Cupcakes.” Is it part of a chain? No, this is her one-and-only store. The name pays homage to the birthplace of the cupcake’s reinvention, made famous when Sarah Jessica Parker ate a cupcake from New York’s Magnolia Bakery on “Sex and the City.”
Over the past year she has bought cute cupcake aprons and other cupcake products from us to help decorate her place.

She has lots of yummy flavors to choose from. Today I tried the one called "Pure Bliss" which is classic white cake and pure buttercream frosting topped with angelic white chocolate curls...so good.

For a real treat visit her at...

Her motto is, "You are what you eat so eat something cute!"

Love is in the Air

At Joyworks as I tidy up and put Christmas away, I've been filling up the empty displays with a touch of love...

Cocktail Rings

Last night my husband and I attended a cocktail party to celebrate my friends 50th birthday. When trying to think of what to wear to the party I knew I must wear one of my cocktail rings. Big rings have become very popular and are so much fun to wear.
Today I went through my broken jewelry and button collection and made a few rings. I made the cameo ring, the black and pearl ring, and the oblong diamond ring. At Joyworks we carry the black plastic ring with lots of diamonds and I'm looking forward to finding more rings at the upcoming shows.
My most favorite ring is the crystal ball ring which I found this holiday season at an antique show. It's quite stunning and will be perfect to wear on New Year's Eve!

After Christmas Sale

Today we got up early and prepared the store for the big sale. We were happy to see our customers line up at the door even with the snowy conditions.
All of our Christmas items are 50% off and we still have lots of good things left.

We woke up today to a winter wonderland with more new snow. I hope we can make it to Christmas dinner...

Yeah!! The whole family was able to make it to my sister's house. She had everything decorated beautifully and we had a great Christmas.

Christmas with Clarice

A couple of years ago we had our Joywork Christmas party at my mom's house. She has great vintage Christmas collections and decorates very cute for Christmas. We've always thought she should be in a magazine so we made a mock up of her house in a Country Living magazine and presented it to her for her birthday.

Clarice Johnson is the owner of Joyworks which is a wonderful gift shop in Snohomish, Washington. She has been collecting for many years and has many vintage Christmas collections. Clarice has found most of her treasures at garage sales, flea markets, thrift shops, and of course Joyworks.

The table was set with loving and care knowing that the Joywork gals soon would be there. She proudly shows off her green depression glass, jadeite dishware, and her tavern candle caroler collection.

Adorning the top of this cupboard is her great collection of vintage wedding cake toppers. These bride and grooms join in the holiday celebration surrounded by cute vintage houses and trees.

When life brings you snow...

Make snow cupcakes!!!

I just got a call from my friend Sandi and she said to check out pictures on her facebook page. She was out playing in the snow and having so much fun. Aren't they adorable...she's so clever!!

Cookie Ladies

Two very sweet ladies, Charlotte and Karen, brought us a beautiful tray of Christmas cookies to the store. They are all delicious and I think I've eaten most of them. We are so lucky to have great customers who have become our true friends.

SQUIRREL AWAY

I spent another snowy night at Jill's and this morning the squirrels provided me with entertainment while I enjoyed my morning coffee. Yesterday it was the birds and today the squirrels were out hoarding the peanuts for whatever is yet to come in our weather. As you can see they are very well fed and really don't need to hoard at all!

I will be going down to open the store today for all our faithful customers. I will also attempt to shovel the snow for your safety. So if you are brave enough to go out, do drop by and visit.

Jill the Bird Feeder

Jill's husband Larry wasn't quick enough in putting food out for their little hummer. He is getting quite brave in this cold weather.

Along with the hummingbird, Jill is attracting all kinds of birds...they are very well fed.

Any ideas on what type of birds these are ?

or these ?

Cool Wheels...

Maybe I can hitch a ride with Frosty to work tomorrow...

Snow Birds

Today I added a cute new snowflake border. My mom told me to go to hhtp://decodivadebi.blogspot.com and check out her blog post on how to create great new borders.

I chose a free one from ShelsScraps. It took me a little while to figure it out but the results are fantastic!

Now that I know what I'm doing, it will be fun to change with the seasons...just like outfits...

Snow Dome

Today was a snow day for me... I couldn't make it to work so I stayed at home and decorated for Christmas and crafted. My craft for the day was to create a little snow scene and put it under a dome. I made these last year for presents and they were fun to make. I looked for inexpensive glass vases that had a small base so that when you turned them over they still looked round. Then I cut a circle a little bigger than the vase opening and assembled my scene. Everything always looks cuter under a dome.

Joywork Christmas Party

This year Shelly hosted our Joywork Christmas party. Her house was decorated so beautifully and we all had a wonderful time.

Shelly just purchased this awesome hutch...there were cute glittering displays on each shelf.

Her tree was decorated with a cherub theme using gold and silver ornaments.

Sandi is serving peppermint cordial which is a Joywork party tradition.

We love Jill's cranberry and pear almond tart--delicious!

Shelly's dogs really wanted to join in the fun...maybe next year.
